MI: ACLU: State must rectify unconstitutional Michigan Sex Offender Registry

Registered sex offender William Hetherington lost everything in 2011 after a state rule change forced him out of a federal program that provides housing and other assistance for honorably-discharged veterans.

Denied access to services, he was forced to move to a one-room apartment, where he still lives today. 

Hetherington is one of the thousands of sex offenders represented in an American Civil Liberties Union class-action lawsuit which argues the state must enact changes to the Michigan Sex Offender Registry Act to bring the law into compliance with the U.S. constitution.  read more
